What is the difference between a permanent residence permit and a long-term resident's residence permit?

Created on: 12.02.2020

There are different grounds on which you can get them:

  • a permanent residence permit is issued to foreigners, who have family ties with Poland (Polish origin, Polish spouse, the Pole’s Card);
  • a long-term resident's residence permit is issued to foreigners, who are in Poland for economic reasons - e.g. work.
    This type of permit is issued after at least 5 years of residence in Poland and after meeting other conditions.

Both authorizations shall be issued for an unlimited period of time. A resident's residence card is valid for 5 years and a permanent residence card for 10 years.
