It is a special form of residence permit for foreigners who do not qualify for refugee status and who would face a real risk of suffering serious harm like death penalty or execution, torture or inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment of an applicant, serious and individual threat to a civilian's life or person by reasons of indiscriminate violence in situations of international or internal armed conflict, if s/he returned to the country of origin. Subsidiary protection in Poland is granted by Head of The Office for Foreigners in Warsaw.
