What should I know? - temporary residence permit

Temporary residence permits are granted, refused, or withdrawn by the voivode competent for your place of residence

We grant a temporary residence permit for the period necessary to achieve the purpose of your stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland, but no longer than 3 years.

In the new MOS portal, it will be necessary to create a new user account. Accounts from the previous version of MOS will not be transferred to the new MOS portal.

IMPORTANT! An account in the MOS system cannot be created by a representative — each account must be created individually by the foreign national or by a parent, guardian, or legal custodian of a minor.
  • Please make sure that you have an active Trusted Profile, qualified electronic signature, or personal signature, which is required to sign the application in the system.
  • We also draw your attention to the fact that after the new MOS portal is launched, you should not wait until the last day of your legal stay to submit your application. It may turn out that one day is not enough to attach all required documents.
  • Never share your Trusted Profile login details (login.gov.pl) with anyone – protect your personal data!
  • If you use the services of a representative and need support while completing the application, you may ask them to assist you during this process. However, the application must be electronically signed by the foreign national. All other letters, requests, and documents at later stages of the procedure may be submitted by the representative within the scope of the granted power of attorney.
Remember that if an attachment signed by your employer is required, you may need to wait a long time to obtain that signature.

Submitting all required documents together with the application in MOS may reduce the amount of official correspondence and shorten the processing time. If clarification or additional explanation of evidence is needed during the proceedings, you may be asked to provide additional documents or make statements confirming the circumstances described in the application.

Representative / address

We recommend creating an e-Delivery mailbox — learn how to do it. Please also read our announcement regarding e-Deliveries.

If you go abroad and you do not appoint an attorney to handle the case, you should at least appoint an attorney for notification in Poland. If you did not indicate an attorney for notification, the letters intended for you will be left in the case file with the result of being delivered.

Inform us about a change in your mailing address, it will speed up the procedure.

You will find a form of the declaration concerning the place of living on our web page - it contains all information that should be placed in it, i.e. who provides the place of living, to whom it is provided, for what period of time and at what is an address.

If you have appointed a proxy, attach the original power of attorney to the documents. If you have more than one attorney, remember to indicate which you want us to send the correspondence to you.

Originals/translations

Submit documents in original (for inspection) or authenticated copy. If you send the documents by post, send them in the original along with a request for their return, after it will be used for the official purposes - after the proceedings have been completed, we will send the originals back to you.

If you submit documents in a foreign language in the application, it is also required to submit a translation of the document into Polish by a certified/sworn translator. You can fin a list of certified translators on the Ministry of Justice website.
