This is required if you are applying for EU long-term resident status. You meet this requirement if you have:
- a certificate confirming knowledge of the Polish language at at least B1 level proficiency, as specified in the regulations issued under section 5, i.e.:
- certificates issued by the following institutions:
a) European Consortium for the Certificate of Attainment in Modern Languages (ECL),
b) telc GmbH, WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme GmbH (TELC);
- a certificate confirming knowledge of the Polish language in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the Council of Europe issued by a university* after completing classes in Polish as a foreign language or another form of education in Polish as a foreign language;
- a certificate granting the right to practise as a sworn translator issued by the Minister of Justice in accordance with the template specified in the regulations issued under Article 6(3) of the Act of 25 November 2004 on the Profession of Sworn Translator (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1326), or a certificate confirming entry on the list of sworn translators.
- a certificate of completion of a school in the Republic of Poland within the meaning of Article 2 point 2 of the Act of 14 December 2016 – Education Law (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 737, as amended 4) where the language of instruction was Polish, excluding a post-secondary school certificate, referred to in Article 18(1)(2)(f) of that Act, or a diploma of graduation from studies in the Republic of Poland conducted in Polish;
- primary schools, including: special, integrated, with preschool, integrated, special, work preparation, bilingual, sports and sports championship classes, sports schools and sports championship schools,
- secondary schools, including: special, integrated, bilingual, with integrated, special, bilingual, military preparation, uniformed profile, sports and sports championship classes, sports schools, sports championship schools, agricultural, forestry, maritime, inland navigation and fisheries schools,
- art schools
- a certificate of completion of a school abroad where the language of instruction was Polish, corresponding to a school within the meaning of Article 2 point 2 of the Act of 14 December 2016 – Education Law, excluding a post-secondary school referred to in Article 18(1)(2)(f) of that Act, or a diploma of graduation from studies conducted in Polish at a foreign university corresponding to a university within the meaning of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science.";

* approved by the minister responsible for internal affairs for the purpose of admitting foreigners to undertake or continue studies in accordance with Article 144(4) of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners (Journal of Laws of 2023, items 519, 185 and 547), or not subject to the approval requirement under Article 144(5) of the Act and with respect to which no decision prohibiting the admission of foreigners, referred to in Article 144a(1) of the Act, has been issued.
